Michael Fry, Bishop Watterson High School Theology Teacher and Josephinum Pontifical College Archivist and Alumni Relations Coordinator
According to Michael Fry, you can do just about anything because you can think and reason logically.
Michael realized after three years of theology in seminary that God may not be calling him to the priesthood. So he took a leave of absence from seminary and began teaching high school theology. Michael had taught kids in Kentucky while on a pastoral assignment in college seminary and had really enjoyed it.
“A student I taught in religious education had a profound conversion and I was convinced that teaching was the right profession for me,” said Mike.
Michael left seminary permanently and continued teaching high school kids.
He later went back to school and earned his Masters in Library Science, and, in addition to teaching, Mike has been the Archivist since 1998 and Alumni Relations Coordinator at the Josephinum since 2003. He enjoys his job because it allows him to stay involved with seminarian life.
“Since I don’t teach at the Josephinum, but I understand what the guys are going through, they really open up to me about what going on in their lives.”
Michael has taught high school theology for 23 years. He loves the Catholic Church and reflects fondly on his years in seminary. Michael is married and has two daughters.
When asked how seminary most impacted his life, Michael summarizes it this way:
“I have a deeper love of the Eucharist and the priesthood.”
